We challenged the guys to start with a high level of urgency/tempo and impose our style of play on the game right from the kickoff and we did that very well during the first half. We very pleased with our ability to be purposeful in possession and with our speed of play when building our attack during the first half. This has been a point of focus over the last few weeks. Both Paul (Ciszewski) and Cole were the driving force behind this during that early part of the game. As a result of our patience, movement and ball circulation we created a number of very good chances and scored three excellent goals. Although we were very good, there is always room for improvement and tonight we recognized a few areas we need to continue to refine. Credit to Western who battled throughout the second half and made the game difficult for us until the end. In these moments we need to recognize subtle tactical or mindset adjustments, especially when in the lead, that can be made to minimize the oppositions impact on the game which is an area for growth. We are growing game by game and making very good progress on a number of levels. I am delighted that our forward were clinical with our finishing and that we also managed to maintain a clean sheet at home as Jared has been exceptional in goal for us all season.”center_img DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men’s soccer team routed Western Illinois, 4-0, Wednesday, Sept. 26 night at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
