Rep. Chu Statement in Support of Continued Negotiations with Iran

Judy Chu (CA-27) released the following statement:“The need for an extension in negotiations with Iran is disappointing, but not discouraging. While talks are delayed, they are continuing. This is critical in our efforts to end the threat of an Iranian nuclear program. So long as the diplomatic process continues, international inspectors will be allowed on the ground in a way that offers us unprecedented access to Iranian nuclear facilities. Inspections remain vital and would be impossible without negotiations. Further, the extension continues the temporary halt on Iranian enrichment of uranium which freezes the program in place. Stopping negotiations would undo all of this progress, remove inspectors from the ground, and allow Iran to resume enrichment and construction. That is why I am committed to ensuring that the U.S. government remains supportive of diplomacy, allowing negotiators to continue to the end of this difficult but significantly important process.” Get our daily Pasadena newspaper in your email box.
